Greetings Grasshopper!
Buckle up. It's time for a story from the Tavern at the Come Write Inn. It's an actual place you can visit anytime, and I am the barkeep/narrator. Enjoy!

So. You’d think, after all these years around the tavern—refilling tankards, wrangling wayward sorcerer’s apprentices, and learning exactly which shade of green means “Don’t drink that”—I’d be ready for anything. But I was not ready for the magical “AI-powered” ordering system that now stands between a part-time bartender and a halfway-working dishwasher at the Come Write Inn.
Allow me to set the scene:
Professor Hoot, my trusted (and opinionated) clockwork owl, perches atop the arch above the bar—his copper feathers gleaming in the perfect morning light. He’s our unofficial mascot and full-time bouncer, overseeing the bustling crossroads of goblins, pixies, and post-quest warriors that pop in for a drink or three.
And as it turns out, he is also a stickler for polished glassware.
Last week, after our last goblin poetry slam left the bar sticky enough to glue a dwarf to his stool, Hoot swivelled his head and gave me The Look. You know the one. The beady-eyed, no-more-excuses look that says, "Even magical establishments need working appliances."
Which is why, after the last goblin poetry night left the tankard stack in tragic, sticky disarray, Hoot flapped down, landed beside me on the bar, and hit me with the Hoot Sequence of Doom:
One shrill hoot (“This is unacceptable.”),
A secondary, insistent hoot (“Something must be done.”),
And finally, a slow, forlorn hoot while gazing meaningfully at the dish bin (“You’re not getting out of this with a dishrag and a prayer.”).
So I said, “Fine. I’m on it. We’ll get a dishwasher. A real one.”
Hoot gave a hopeful little double-hoot as I dusted off the “Magical Merchant’s Artificial Intelligence Portal,” famous for promising to make ordering ‘foolproof’ and ‘delightfully simple.’ I loaded it up on the ancient crystal tablet they sent for ‘optimal enchantment output.’
A glowing face appeared, looking suspiciously like an overcaffeinated pufferfish, and trilled:
“State your request in exactly 14 words. No more, no less.”
I paused. Hoot hooted. (“Fourteen, really? What nonsense.”)
I attempted:
“I require a dishwasher that handles enchanted tankards, removes dragon-scale residue, and polishes crystal.”
Portal:
“Did you mean: ‘Portable Goat Polisher, Self-Filling’? Confirm with two beeps.”
Hoot emitted a sound somewhere between indignant and resigned. (“This is why I don’t trust the cloud.”)
Undeterred, I tried again—
“Magical dishwasher for Come Write Inn, must handle enchanted stains and goblin glitter. Please hurry.”
The AI hummed, conjuring a swirling image of a… hydra? With sponges for heads?
Hoot facewinged, a low moan of pure despair. (“If you order that, I’m moving to the apothecary.”)
At this point, we were in too deep to retreat. A small crowd had gathered—halflings with sticky mugs, a dwarven regular with tankards stacked five high, all peeking to see the future of dish-care unfold.
I took a breath, channeled my inner arcane rules lawyer, and typed:
“Request: One magical, automated dishwasher, suitable for post-adventuring tankards and unexpected cheese emergencies.”
The glow brightened. The portal flashed:
“Congratulations! One ‘Enchanted Disconsolator,’ specialty: melancholy cheese wheels and dragon eggs. Shipping via underground tunnel—ETA 312 years.”
Hoot shrieked, fluttering up to the tavern sign like he could summon sanity by altitude alone. (“We’re doomed.”)
So, dear friend, should you visit and receive your cider in a mug with suspiciously poetic residue, know this: at the Come Write Inn, technology may baffle, AI may recommend appliances for cheese existentialism, and an owl may communicate strictly in hoots—but the real magic is in our shared, muddled humanity.
Here’s to tangled translations, messy attempts, and the joy of surviving AI that can’t tell a tankard from a turnip—because the stories we collect along the way far outshine any “perfect” result.
You’ll always have a seat at my bar—complete with sticky stories, a nod from Hoot, and zero AI annoyance.
Tell me your funniest battle with AI hype magic. Or just reply “Hoot!” if you feel the struggle.
May your glasses glimmer and your owls stay on your side,
